Wow, what a winter we are having! It started to snow around 10 last night and what a bast of weather we are getting! This morning many of our windows were coated with snow, like this,
and poor Bailey couldn't leave the house until Kevin shovelled a path for her!
Now, at 4 pm, it is still snowing, and it isn't expected to stop until midnight. I heard that all schools in New Brunswick - the whole province - were closed today. Even the malls and most services are not operating. Now that's a snow day! Of course, Kevin is out trying to keep ahead of it with the plows. He's used the plow truck, the grader and even bull-dozers to clear away the accumulation. The problem is going to be - where to put it all? Once the snowbanks are that high, it isn't easy to move them. On a day like this it is hard to imagine that spring will still come.We did a bit of winter camping on the weekend. On Saturday Kevin plowed a section along the road to the chalet and built a nice big bonfire. We brought some chairs and an old carpet for seating and a dozen or so people gathered around for a weinie roast.
We boiled a kettle over the fire to make tea and hot chocolate. Maeve took it all in, and like all of us, enjoyed the winter picnic.

In fact, we enjoyed it so much that some of us did it again after lunch on Sunday. There's nothing like sitting around a fire with a nice hot drink on a cold February day!
It's been mostly a quiet month, but with a few special occasions to celebrate.
Maeve had a couple of sleepovers at Gramma's house, and here we are having a story time. I am so glad for technology that allows us to see our little Julia from time to time. She is on the move now, as she has learned to crawl, and will soon be standing too. But unfortunately, the webcam doesn't allow for hugs, and that is what I would really love to do! In early February it was my sister Karen's birthday and we had a family gathering at our house, with great food, as always, and a game of Sequence. Here is the birthday girl with her son Matt.
Our friend Valerie, who moved to Alberta, is back for a visit, so last week "the girls" went out for supper at Eastside Mario's, then came to my place for coffee and a game of "Wide World". It is a Parker Brothers game that we found at Yoho Lake in the cottage where Kevin and Kathy spent their summers as kids. The game must be about forty years old! It is a race to fly your airplane to a series of destinations before the other players, but there is a clear plastic sheet that sits on one quarter of the playing board, and whenever someone rolls a six, the wind blows, and that sheet moves to another section of the board, taking any airplanes that happen to be on it, along with it. So it was five vintage ladies enjoying a vintage game!
