Vacation's End

Yes, many good things do come to an end, one of them being our Florida holiday. We arrived back home last evening, and are so thankful for all the memories we made over the past two weeks. Byron and Ruth began their drive home on Saturday morning, and Kevin and I spent the day at Epcot, which is probably our favourite of the Disney parks. I enjoy all the others, and haven't been to what was called Disney's MGM Studios for a long time, but we had to agree on just one park to visit, so Epcot it was. There couldn't have been a more perfect day to go. The weather was absolutely gorgeous - sunny and very warm. Crowds were manageable - enough people to make it interesting, but no long lines or packed attractions. Having been there many times, there was no pressure to "see it all and do everything", but we could do what we wanted in a leisurely way. It really was one of the best days of the whole vacation!
The floral displays were quite spectacular, because of the garden festival. Here are a few samples.

Look at all the gorgeous shades of hydrangeas!

There were "sculptures" like this all around the park - characters created from living plants - which we found really interesting. (The face in front is not a Disney character)

Minnie's dress is made of red and white carnations, and smells as sweet as it looks!

The vibrant colours and patterns here are just amazing. We enjoyed all the lovely displays, and couldn't stop taking pictures of them!

This is a view of the England section of World Showcase. There are shops and gardens to walk through at the back of this building.

Here I am going into the Norway pavilion, which includes a ride in a Viking ship through the land of trolls!
This is the China pavilion, where there is a beautiful 360 degree movie which surrounds you with wonderful scenes of the Chinese landscape. We saw a concert by a group called "The Turtles", who did a lot of great songs in the 60's, and are still going strong! It was really good, and we sang along with the rest of the crowd. Here are Flo and Eddie, belting one out.

We had our evening meal at "The Rose and Crown" in "England" and were served by a young lady from Sheffield. She was familiar with some of the places we have visited in the real England, and asked if we had ever eaten at "The Magpie" in Whitby. She was excited to learn that we had indeed! We shared a delicious salad, then had pork tenderloin with an onion marmalade (Kevin) and lamb shepherd's pie and lamb chops (Dianne) We were happy to have a table outside, along the water.

Here we are at the end of the day, tired but still smiling!

We took this picture of the fountains and Spaceship Earth just before going back to our hotel.

It was a truly wonderful day!
