What a beautiful Easter weekend we had! In fact, records were broken for temperatures in this area this early in April. It was certainly warmer than the weather we had in Florida this year!
We had the usual church services to commemorate Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, which always makes Easter that much more meaningful for me, reminding me of the events that preceded the day of Jesus' resurrection. Before Jesus rose, He suffered and died a horrible death, and God's amazing plan included even the horrible parts. Without His sacrifice, I would have no hope for this life or the next. I praise God for His wonderful love that went to such great lengths for our sakes.
I have a few traditions at Easter time, including these cupcakes that I always try to bake. When the children were little it was their job to decorate them, a project they always enjoyed, and we would be amazed at their creative efforts. This year Amy and I did the decorating while Robin looked on. Before long it will be the grandchildren trimming the cupcakes!
On Saturday Kevin and a crew replaced the wood on the bridge at the pond, and they did a great job.
After church on Sunday the Phillips side of the family gathered for a dinner of roast ham, lamb kabobs with lots of veggies and a selection of desserts, including strawberry-filled chocolate cupcakes and Citrus Cheesecake. Everything was yummy!
Following dinner we had the Great Easter Egg Hunt (another one of our traditions). It was not restricted to the little ones - everyone from Maeve to Grampie Byron scoured the rooms gathering treats!
Later in the afternoon, Kevin and Maeve walked in the field, and they brought home a bouquet of Mayflowers - in full bloom! I'm sure I never saw Mayflowers this early before.
That evening we attended the community choir's presentation entitled " Look to the Lamb", a special program of songs and music. It was a perfect ending for our Easter celebration!
I have lots of photos that hopefully I will soon be able to add to this post. Why do I always have problems with this?
