About Me

I love being a Mum and a Gramma! Relationships with loved ones are what give life meaning, especially the relationship I have with the One who gives me life! I appreciate all the beauty of nature, I love travelling to see new places, I enjoy photography, cooking, having company and cottage living in the summer. My favourite social event is a games night with family and friends.

Christmas is in the Air!

I must begin with a Josy picture! Her Mummy brought her to Gramma's house for her first visit, and she slept the entire time! She certainly is a peaceful one! That is the carriage cover that I crocheted especially for her. (I had a blue one too, just in case - maybe it will go to Amy's baby?)

Here are some of the presents wrapped and ready! I love pretty papers and ribbons, and wrapping gifts is a pleasure rather than a chore for me.
I began my baking today. First I made the cake that I make every year, a rich white cake filled with cherries and currants and raisins and pecans, which is called "Fruited Tea Ring". Something like the old-fashioned light fruitcake, but less dense because it is made with a package of cream cheese and four eggs. It's a favourite of mine, even though I'm not a fan of regular fruitcake. I also made a pan of White Chocolate Raspberry Squares, which I discovered a couple of years ago - they are scrumptious! I have always loved "Mocha Cakes" but never tried making them until today. I don't enjoy anything that involves a lot of fuss and muss, but I decided they were worth a try, and it wasn't as fiddly as I thought. I bought the pound cake, made the icing to dip the cake cubes in and rolled them in fine peanuts - not hard at all. The taste test says they are worth the effort! That's them in the photo above.
The tree is trimmed, the house is decorated, I'm in the process of wrapping, there is a bit of shopping to finish, then there's lots of cleaning and baking to be done. I'm so glad we have snow, which really makes it feel like Christmas is just around the corner, puts everyone "in the mood", I guess. I always enjoy this time of year, even when things tend to get a little chaotic the closer we get to the 25th. But this year I have promised myself that I won't panic about running out of time, I'll just take things one day at a time, do what I can and what really needs to be done, will be! The most important things are that my sweet family will all be together, and that we have so many wonderful things to celebrate, especially God's gift of His Son. What an amazing thing it is that the Creator became a part of His creation - a tiny newborn baby just like our Josy. A new baby at Christmas time makes the meaning so much clearer!
We put up a window bird feeder outside the kitchen window, and guess who really enjoys watching the chickadees and goldfinches?

Sophie's getting as close to them as she can - just looking, of course

The frost on the trees was so beautiful one morning after the first snowfall, it was a winter wonderland for sure
