The Whirlwind is Over

Wow, what a week it has been! The guests arrived, the wedding plans were accomplished, events unfolded beautifully and now the honeymooners are enjoying the Rocky Mountains. So much has happened I can only give a brief account. It seems strange to go from full steam ahead, with my mind full of details and arrangements, to absolute calm, back to ordinary life again!
After Jon and Miranda arrived on the fourth, a crowd of us had lunch at the Blue Canoe. I had one final meeting with the caterer, then we were invited to a wonderful meal at Kathy's with the whole Phillips family, including Nelson (also known as Felix), who cooked all the delicious food, and his family Nancy and Omar. It was a very special time.
The next day there was a barbecue at the home of the Fowlers (the groom's family) followed by the rehearsal at the church in Tracy. I was beginning to realize that all the plans would soon be out of my hands and many other people would be doing their part in bringing this wedding about, that my role was over. I'm only now feeling the relief of that!
I had been saying for weeks that the wedding day would be sunny, but Kevin listened to the weather reports and bought a supply of umbrellas. When we woke that morning, the sky was grey, and rain seemed to be a strong possibility. After I delivered the cake to the reception and had an appointment with the hairdresser, we were back at home for a lunch of nachos which Rich prepared for us. What a thoughtful thing to do! Then the time had come to dress in our finery for the wedding. Sometime while we were getting ready, the sun began to come out, and by the time the photographer had arrived, it was a beautiful sunshiney day! Everyone was surprised but me! On Monday, Kevin returned all the umbrellas, unopened.
It was truly a beautiful wedding. From the church decorations to the wonderful organ music, to the holy words of the Prayer Book service, to the most inspiring talk given by the minister, to the beautiful bridesmaids and the glowing bride and groom, it was simply exquisite. I was a most happy, and proud, mother of the bride.
The receiving line at the church was followed by a limousine ride to the Kingsdood Lodge, where photographs were taken and a wonderful meal enjoyed by about 140 people. Jonathan was the Master of Ceremonies, and he did a terrific job. There were lots of great speeches, and some games for fun. It was a time enjoyed by all.
The next day we hosted a family brunch and in the afternoon anyone was welcome to come and see the newlyweds open gifts. We then saw them off as they began their honeymoon in NB, then flew to Calgary for the next 11 nights.
We have been keeping busy since then, doing things with Jon and Miranda, but there is a noticeable change of pace. Hopefully we will now be able to move to our summer place at Yoho Lake, and really unwind!
