Our Yoho Lake HomeWhere have the past three weeks gone? We have been living at the cottage at Yoho Lake since the 24 of July, enjoying the kind of summer weather we dream of all winter long! It is hot and sunny with just enough breeze to keep it comfortable - just the way I love it!
On the Halifax waterfrontThe weekend before that we had driven to Halifax - Jon, Miranda, Kevin and I - to pick up the honeymooners at the airport. We arrived there Friday afternoon and experienced the heaviest downpour of rain we had seen in a long time. We weren't prepared with rain gear, so had to go to the hotel room and use the hairdryer on our clothes. The rain did let up and we were able to walk around the waterfront later and take pictures. Then we had a lovely dinner in a nice seafood restaurant.
Miranda and I found children's books by a Maritime author named Heidi Jardine Stoddart and we each bought one. Mine is called "East to the Sea", and Miranda's is "Return to the Sea" (or "Return to the East") As we looked throught them in the shop, we both had tears in our eyes! They are about a family's journey to visit grandparents in New Brunswick each summer, and are beautifully illustrated, and very nostalgic. I read both of them as bedtime stories in the hotel that night, a touching end to a lovely day for the four of us.
Amy and Rudi arrived at 7AM the following morning, so after meeting them at the airport we returned to the hotel and the six of us had breakfast together.
We then visited the museum about Canadian immigrants, called Pier 21. It depicts, in pictures, movies, interviews and models, the experiences of people who came to Canada by ship as refugees, orphans, war brides, etc. It was very moving, and I would recommend it as worth a visit. This ended our short, but full, trip to Halifax.
The day after that Jon and Miranda flew back to their western home - yes, there were tears. That afternoon was moving time for Amy and Rudi. They had a great crew to help them get set up in their new apartment, and they are now enjoying life in their first home together.
