I love being a Mum and a Gramma! Relationships with loved ones are what give life meaning, especially the relationship I have with the One who gives me life! I appreciate all the beauty of nature, I love travelling to see new places, I enjoy photography, cooking, having company and cottage living in the summer. My favourite social event is a games night with family and friends.

The lake today

It's the last day of August, so I really must write a post! We are still living at Yoho Lake, waiting for summer to return. It is summer until the 21st of September, right? The past two weekends we have had a near miss with two separate hurricanes, which gave us some wind and lots of rain. Today, although the sun is out, there are cloudy patches and the wind is quite wild. The lake is very rough with lots of whitecaps. Certainly not a day for relaxing on the deck with a book!
Note to readers: I used to be able to move pictures around in my post, but now they will only stay in the order I download them, so to save myself some frustration, I will just leave them as they are, and write the blog as I normally would. It means that my readers will have to keep scrolling up to see the pictures, but for now that's the only way it will work!
Anyone who has visited us at the lake will remember the old trampoline. It was first installed in the late 80's, and was well used not only by the children, but also the big kids too - they never seemed to outgrow it! Everyone wanted to try it out, and there were amazingly few accidents. If the kids weren't in the water, they were on the trampoline, so it really was a great source of entertainment. But a couple of years ago we began to see signs of wear, and decided not to put it up again. Now that the next generation is arriving, Grampie Byron declared that we needed a new trampoline. So, one has been purchased, and wonder of wonders, it fits right into the hole that was built for the first one! This one is a newer style, with safety features the old one didn't have, and Maeve has been enjoying it just as much as the generation before her!
When Jen was in middle- and high- school, she was one of a threesome of girls who were together constantly. They were at our house as much as their own, I think, and they became members of our family. Well, all three are now married mammas, living many miles apart. What a treat it was to see all of them together again at Yoho Lake earlier this month, when they rented a cottage down the lake from us for a week. The picture shows Ailsa, holding her son Huxley, Karen with her new daughter Kate, and Jen with Maeve. They have become lovely ladies, indeed.
Harvey is a community a few miles from Yoho Lake, and if you have driven through it, you have seen their giant fiddle. That fiddle is in honour of Don Messer, a Canadian music legend who would have turned 100 years old this year. His birthday was celebrated with a week-long musical event in Harvey, earlier in August. We attended a few of the performances and really enjoyed the entertainment. There was an outdoor church service with old-time fiddle music, and a kitchen party, and a gospel night, as well as competitions and concerts.
Although August is over, we expect to have some beautiful September days here at the lake, and hope to enjoy some lovely fall days before we move back to "real life"!
