I love being a Mum and a Gramma! Relationships with loved ones are what give life meaning, especially the relationship I have with the One who gives me life! I appreciate all the beauty of nature, I love travelling to see new places, I enjoy photography, cooking, having company and cottage living in the summer. My favourite social event is a games night with family and friends.

At the Phillips House

How do you know when the Christmas season is really over? When my Christmas tree has been untrimmed, taken down and thrown out the front door - and that all happened yesterday. If you know me at all, you know that Christmas is my favourite time of the year, and I really stretch the festivities from early December to as late in January as I can!  We had two end-of-the-season events in our home to round out the 2009 holiday season.
I belong to a world-wide organization called the Mothers' Union, which focuses on Christian family life. Our small local branch has been meeting for nearly twenty years now, and in that time we have become close friends. We always have our Christmas gathering in January, to avoid the pre-Christmas rush, and know that all the busy-ness is behind us. This year we met on the Twelfth Day of Christmas at our house for a meal (which everyone contributes to), time for good conversation, and a gift exchange. During the year we have Secret Prayer Partners and this is when we reveal who our partner was. It was my excuse for keeping the tree and all my decorations in place for a little bit longer! It really was a special time with good food, lots of laughter and it was a beautiful close to the season. Here are the seven of us in our dining room.

Then I decided that we needed one more party! My family had only been here for Christmas dinner on the 25th, and some were missing, so I invited everyone for a games day last Saturday. Once again I had a house filled with people, food and fun! We started with a new game called "Etc.", which comes with a box of cards with clues and some scoring discs - very simple to play and lots of fun. We played some other board games, and there was a crokinole board set up, and a game of carpet bowls took place, there was football on TV, so there was something for everyone. My sister and her husband, my brother, his wife and their two boys, my Mum, plus our two daughters, a son-in-law and the three little ones were here - it was great!
I didn't take many pictures, but here is one with gifts for Josy and Robin!

But then I knew the time had come for the tree to go...... So I have things to organize and put away, and that is my task today. It makes me a little sad, as always, but there are plenty of reasons to get together with friends and family, so I look forward to 2010 and all that it holds!
